What is a marketing plan?
This is your master plan and strategy for your business’s overall marketing. As time goes on this will change to fit your goals and business growth. You should review it regularly and make changes as needed.
Trying to market your business without a marketing plan is like trying to drive in a blizzard. You have an idea of what you need to do, but you can’t see the clear path to get you to your goals.
Your marketing plan helps you to map out a plan that aligns with your business goals, your lifestyle, and what you want to see happen in your business. It helps to map out how to reach those plans through your marketing efforts.
I like to map out 6-12 months at a time, and then review it quarterly.
Doing this allows you to have a clear picture for the next six to 12 months, so you know what you need to do to gain traction.
To do this I start with overall business goals.
Income goals aren’t the only thing that we should look at. What is your vision for your business over the next year, two years, five years, ten years.
Your goals should be set to lead you down the path to see out your vision you have for your business.
Do you want to grow your team? What needs to be in place before you can hire those team members? What do you need to get those things in place. What marketing needs to happen?
We keep breaking this down to the individual task level, so there is a clear plan to get there.
What will it take to get you to those goals?
Then plan month by month the tasks and tactical things that need to happen to move the needle forward towards those goals.
You want to launch a course… what needs to be in place before you can launch that course?
What support will you need?
What tools will you need?
What is your budget? The things I include in a marketing plan:
Overarching Sales & Marketing Objectives for 2020:
- Pick 5 Goals
- Break each goal down
- Take the breakdown and plan out each month
- Break down the month to tasks and deliverables
- Assign team members and due dates
What content is needed and on what platforms - Plan out all the content
- What metrics should you track to make sure you are on track and when to make tweaks.
Some of the things I include vary based on goals and what’s needed but this gives you a high level overview of what to include in your plan.
